How Much Does SPSS Cost in 2026? Plans, Student Prices and Free Options
IBM lists the SPSS Statistics base subscription as "Starting at $99.00 USD Per Authorized User", with monthly, quarterly or annual plans, and add-on bundles from $79 each. Students pay far less through authorized resellers: a six-month GradPack cost between about $38 and $70 in October 2026. Many universities provide SPSS to students at no cost, and IBM's free trial lasts 14 days.
All prices below were read from IBM's US pricing page and two resellers on 5 October 2026, in US dollars. They change often, and IBM shows local prices on its country sites, so treat this as a snapshot and check before buying. This guide is written by the team behind TRTT, a free tool mentioned at the end.

Subscription vs perpetual licence
Subscription. IBM's pricing page offers the base subscription with "monthly, quarterly or annual plans". The page doesn't spell out in its summary which term the "starting at" figure refers to, so check the term in IBM's checkout before you compare it with other quotes. IBM mentions promotional discounts on annual subscriptions, up to 45% when bundled with add-ons. A subscription stops working when you stop paying, and you get new versions while it runs.
Perpetual licence. IBM describes this option as letting organisations "use and own the solution indefinitely with a one-time payment". It isn't priced on the public page; you get a quote. Perpetual licences make sense for organisations that use SPSS for years and prefer a capital purchase. For an individual with a short project, they rarely do.
IBM also offers subscription licences for organisations that need "extended access periods of 12+ months", and campus editions for universities.
What the money buys: modules
SPSS is sold in modules, and the price depends on which ones you need. The base subscription includes Statistics Base, Data Preparation and Bootstrapping. That covers descriptives, frequencies, crosstabs, t tests, one-way ANOVA, correlation and linear regression. IBM groups the other modules into three add-on bundles:
| Add-on bundle | Includes |
|---|---|
| Custom Tables and Advanced Statistics | Regression, Advanced Statistics, Custom Tables |
| Forecasting and Decision Trees | Forecasting, Decision Trees, Direct Marketing, Neural Networks |
| Complex Sampling and Testing | Complex Samples, Conjoint, Exact Tests, Missing Values, Categories |
A common surprise: binary and multinomial logistic regression are in IBM's Regression module, not in Base. If your work uses logistic regression or the advanced general linear models, budget for the first add-on bundle on top of Base.
Student and academic pricing
IBM doesn't sell student licences directly. Its product page says single-user licences for students and faculty are available "at special academic pricing through trusted IBM-authorized vendors". These are the GradPacks: full SPSS Statistics on a 6- or 12-month rental licence for Windows or macOS.
Two resellers listed these prices for SPSS Statistics 32 GradPacks on 5 October 2026:
| Edition | ThinkEdu 6 mo | ThinkEdu 12 mo | OnTheHub 6 mo | OnTheHub 12 mo |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Base | $69.95 | $119.95 | $37.90 | $63.25 |
| Standard | $89.95 | $139.95 | $53.35 | $83.05 |
| Premium | not listed | not listed | not listed | $97.35 |
Base GradPacks contain the same three modules as IBM's base subscription; Standard adds Advanced Statistics, Regression and Custom Tables; Premium adds the rest. You'll need to prove you're a current student, and OnTheHub states its SPSS offers aren't available to academic users in 25 listed countries. Edition details are in SPSS student version.
The cheapest route of all is your university. Many institutions pay for a campus licence and let students install SPSS for free, or use it in labs and virtual desktops. Check your IT department's software page first; see is SPSS free for students?.
Regional prices
People search for SPSS prices in India, the Philippines, Malaysia, Pakistan, the UK, Australia and elsewhere. IBM runs country versions of its website, but the Indian and UK SPSS pricing pages we tried returned errors on 5 October 2026, so we don't quote local figures here. To see your local price, look for SPSS Statistics on the IBM site for your country or ask a local IBM business partner. Student resellers also price by region, and some offers aren't available in every country.
Is SPSS worth the price?
It depends on who is grading your output. SPSS is widely taught in social science, psychology, health and market research courses, and knowing it has value. If your instructor teaches SPSS syntax or asks for SPSS output files, use your university licence, the trial or a GradPack.
If you only need correct analyses of a .sav file, the price is harder to justify, because several good tools cost nothing.
Free and low-cost alternatives
- PSPP: free GNU program designed as an SPSS replacement; reads and writes .sav files and runs a large share of SPSS syntax.
- jamovi: free and open source desktop app that opens .sav files. jamovi Cloud has a free Guest plan with session limits; its Priority plan is priced by region.
- JASP: free and open source, with classical and Bayesian analyses; opens .sav files.
- JMP Student Edition: free for students, educators and researchers at degree-granting institutions, renewable every 12 months.
- TRTT: free in your desktop browser at trtt.app, with no paid web plan, no install and no account. It opens and saves .sav files with labels, follows the SPSS 32 menu layout, and covers the common procedures: descriptives, crosstabs with chi-square, t tests, ANOVA, correlation, linear and ordinal regression, factor analysis, reliability, cluster analysis and nonparametric tests. It doesn't include logistic regression, custom tables or repeated-measures models, and the web version has no PDF export. Calculations run on your own computer.
On iPhone and iPad, TRTT is a free app for data sets up to 100 cases. An optional Pro upgrade removes the limit, as a weekly or monthly subscription or a one-time purchase; prices are shown in the app.
A quick cost comparison for a student with one statistics course: university licence (often $0), IBM trial ($0 for 14 days), GradPack ($38 to $140 depending on edition, term and reseller), free tools ($0). For more options, see SPSS alternatives and SPSS alternative online.

How much is SPSS for students?

Can I buy SPSS once instead of subscribing?
IBM offers perpetual licences with a one-time payment, mainly for organisations, priced by quote rather than on the public page. Student GradPacks are time-limited rentals.
Is there a free version of SPSS?
Only the 14-day free trial. Free programs that open SPSS files include PSPP, jamovi, JASP and TRTT.
Why is logistic regression not in my SPSS?
Binary and multinomial logistic regression belong to IBM's Regression module, which isn't included in Base. You need the add-on bundle, or a Standard or Premium GradPack.
